Florida Atlantic University is divided into 10 colleges. These are the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, College of Business, College for Design and Social Inquiry, College of Education, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Graduate College, Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, and Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. Through these colleges, Florida Atlantic University offers over 170 degrees.
The College of Arts and Letters has 26 majors consisting of classes associated with linguistics, multimedia, political science, communications, history, and theater. 13 minors are also offered, highlighting the broader topics outlines by the majors. There are 9 certificate programs highlighting culture-specific studies as well as English as a second language. Additionally, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, a minor in anthropology, and a minor in political science are also offered online.
The College of Business offers 10 majors, highlighting economics, marketing, management, hospitality, accounting, and finance. 18 minors highlighting the major pillars of business, including accounting, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and real estate are offered. 10 certificates are offered in subject areas such as risk management, information security, and business analytics. Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, Marketing, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Management with a Concentration in Leadership and Applied Managerial Skills are available online. Graduate online programs resulting in a Master of Science in Information Technology Management, Big Data Analytics Graduate Certificate, and Executive Education Graduate Programs are available online. The College of Design and Social Inquire offers 7 majors resulting in Bachelor degrees of Architecture, Arts in Criminal Justice, Public Safety Administration, Public Management, Social Work, Urban Design, and Urban and Regional Planning. At the graduate level, a Master of Nonprofit Management, Master of Public Administration, Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Master of Social Work, Master of Urban and Regional Planning, Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Administration and a Doctor of Social Work are offered. A Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, Bachelor of Public Safety Administration, Bachelor of Public Management, and a graduate-level Child Welfare Graduate Certificate are available online.
The College of Education is broken into departments of Communication Science and Disorders, Counselor Education, Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry, Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, Exceptional Student Education, and Teaching and Learning. Many of the departments offer graduate-level work with the majority of the undergraduate degrees offered in the Department of Teaching and Learning. There are 12 masters-level degrees and two graduate-level certificates available online.
The College of Engineering and Computer Science consists of three departments: the Civil, Environmental and Geometrics Engineering department; Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department; and the Ocean and Mechanical Engineering department. Each department has degrees offered closely relating to the titles of the department including middle school/high school program for internships at Florida Atlantic University. The College of Medicine offers graduate certificates, medical degrees (MD), Master degrees, doctorate of philosophies, and join MD/Master of Business degrees. The College of Nursing offers four degrees: Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing, Working Professionals Second Degree (part-time BSN), Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice. The College of Science is broken into departments of Biological Science, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Geosciences, Marine Science and Oceanography, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and Psychology. Florida Atlantic University Application Requirements
First-time freshmen have general requirements based on high school units taken to include four units of English, four units of mathematics, three units of natural science, three units of social science, two units of foreign languages, and two units of academic electives. The Christine E. Lynne College of Nursing, Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, School of Architecture, College of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, and Music Majors all have additional application requirements beyond that of basic requirements.
Transfer admissions requirements are a GPA of 2.5 or higher, be in good academic standing of the last institute attended, and meet freshmen requirements if the applicant has less than 30 credit hours or has eight to ten credit hours of a foreign language if the student has greater than 60 credit hours. Graduate college admissions differ from program-to-program and will be dependent on the student’s interest.
Tuition and Financial Aid
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, tuition and fees for full time, first-time undergraduate students is $4,831 for in-state tuition and $17,276 for out-of-state tuition. Florida Atlantic University estimates their tuition and fees, based on 30 credits per semester, at $6,099 for Florida residents and $21,595 for non-Florida residents. International students are considered out-of-state residents and will qualify for out-of-state or non-Florida resident rates.
Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships, work-study programs, Florida Bright Futures Scholars, and federal and public student loans. Grants and scholarships do not need to be repaid while loans do.
